The La Honda Extremist. VOL.1 #3 1/23/00

The advance guard of the crazed masses. Over the top and through the woods.

Yes my friends, the Extremist is here again with issue # 3. I know many of you are saying to yourselves; "This thing keeps coming back like bad pizza!" A Readers UN-Digest of sorts. But I tell you I can't stop writing this any more than you can stop reading this. You don't believe me? Go ahead, throw this paper to the ground?.. there, you see, you are still reading. Captive to this drivel, just as I am. But enough about you, let's talk about me, and there is a lot to talk about.

Let me tell you something; this is a strange town. Craig says its no different than Redwood City except everybody knows everybody and there aren't as many buses. I don't know. But it sure seems like a strange place, stuck-up in a crevasse in the back of this big valley. A real hole in the wall spot for outlaws, scofflaws and Volvo's. Mike had said that this town is a fine line between heaven and hell. That fits better than any, the outback of purgatory as I said last issue. Paulette said that people either love it here or hate it here, no in-betweens. My wife & I can't decide if we want to buy a house to settle in, or pack up, leave, and never return! John had said that people go to the country to be in the open and people come to La Honda to HIDE (from themselves). I've noticed that. I can't remember what Fred said, but it was profound enough for me to decide to lead with this subject. Something about those that cant fit nowhere else almost fit here. What kinda place is this?

"When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro." - Hunter Thompson.

So, If the question is "What is La Honda?", I have an answer. La Honda U.! That's right, The University of La Honda! Listen: Aristotle started a school, so did Bruce Lee! There's probably nothing to it! All we have to do is fill up a calendar with events and do 'em. (Or so one would think)

No Seriously! Look here. The Metro Santa Cruz 12/29/99 Page 5, "2059?UC-La Honda scientists develop pigs that fly." See? We have Extremist operatives in the field laying the groundwork for upgrading the clubhouse and acquiring big money endowments & grants for the University.

Here are the events that are proposed or already in progress;

1. Monthly Community Dinners. The last Sunday of each month. These are ongoing. They have been pleasant and more fun than I expected. I'm most impressed by the wide range of people and talent that shows up. We don't seem to have any average folks around here. Next one is Sunday January 30th.

2. University Classes. The Teaching Company goes to the great universities, Stanford, Harvard, Yale?, video tapes a full university class of the best courses and sells them for $20 to $300. Http://www.teachingco.com So we buy a couple of these and start our own university. Did you enjoy your collage classes? Ivy? I know where to get ivy.

3. "Superlearning" Spanish as a Second Language. These Classes are a way to rapid learn a language, employing accelerated learning techniques, such as rhythm, intonation, special breathing, hypnosis and trips to chucks Donuts in the wee hours. We will get results of 300 + words/day.

4. Start up business hatchery or Investment club. La Honda's own enterprise zone. Got ideas?

5. Digital Media Production and Broadcasting. As a youth & adult project we will create streaming youth radio using realplayer and homemade video programs like; "The Breakfast Show" It's a local talk show with no content to speak of. "You won't be able to tell the guests from the hosts." Every morning or so. Help us to fund this project by buying all your books at the online La Honda Bookstore. Http://www.lahonda.vstorebooks.com

6. Monthly Movie Club. When I was a lad my folks would get together with all their pals and they would watch movies all night and party like animals. I was thinking that we should do the same thing right here in town. No, I mean the watch movie part. Have you ever seen "Koyanysquatsi"? We will get together, throw popcorn, and show some great old or new movies. It'll be fun and if not, I'll go home.

7. New games, Drama & Yoga Day. Positive all win group activities.

8. Gardening class. The hill behind the clubhouse has been suggested as a good spot for a community garden. So be it. Lets talk

9. One Step Beyond. Alpha Brainwave Synthesizers, Biofeedback Machines, Isolation Float Tanks and Nootropics are some of the topics we will experience. For instance, Dean McMahon and Dr. Marquis, P.H.D. Nuropsycology will be using Supplements; "Smart Drugs" & Neutracuticals for reverse aging; Biofeedback and the Buddhist 8 fold path in an attempt to become Superhuman. Could be interesting, maybe loose some weight. Stay tuned.
U.L.H. will offer nine courses in the spring, each with non transferable credits!

Ask an Expert. Marceey's Financial Advice.

You, the viewer: Hi! I'm trying to get my act together and I finally got a steady income. Now I'm ready to start saving for retirement or investing. Where do I start?

Marceey, the Expert; How you start depends on how much you can put away each month. Find out what the minimum amount is to open a money market account at your bank. If you don't have enough yet, open a regular savings account. Set up an automatic monthly transfer from your regular checking account to your savings or money market account.
If you start with a savings account, switch to a money market account as soon as you have enough money in savings to meet the minimum. That's because you'll get about twice as much interest in a money market account. This will be your emergency fund.

Once you've put enough aside for emergencies - say, 3 month's worth of expenses - you're ready to start buying investments. You'll want to have at least $1000 to start (that's a common minimum to buy a mutual fund, although many funds require more). Go to the Fund Finder section of Quicken.com at http://www.quicken.com/investments/mutualfunds/finder/ and go through the EasyStep Search to find a list of funds that fit you. Another step you might take if you have enough to invest in several funds is to go to http://www.strong-funds.com/strong/Planner98/asset.htm This site, maintained by a no-load mutual fund company, can help you figure out what categories of investments you might want to have for a diversified investment strategy.

The History of the US 1900-2020, in the opinion of an Extremist.

The great failure of the last century, it has been said, was that people were not given greater access to their political and religious institutions. The landscape behind these failures is the real history of this country. What most historians don't understand is that in the last hundred years the major development was the rise of the multinational corporation/state. What most futurists fail to take into account is the evolution of our minds ability and its burgeoning potential in the next few decades. Here then is how it really goes.

At the turn of the century, a few bankers and railroad monopolists ruled the US infrastructure and much of the culture as well. The overt corruption of government in 1900 by big business had caused a backlash of investigative journalism, progressive politics and union organizing. Between the concentration of big business power and organized social movements, 20th century American culture began to take shape.

For the first 16 years, the USA was still a bunch a creative hicks with lots o' spark, ruled by a few men with big ideas. To get us into W.W. 1, The Lucitainia was sunk in the last year of the conflict. The new aristocrats of railroad, oil and banking empires used the 1st World War to begin orchestrating our national priorities. That war would cost Americans $32 Billion. With The Overman Act of 1918, Wilson mobilized our country into "a managed economy" for the war effort and began managing society to that end as well. "We capitalized on the profound impulse called patriotism" said treasury Secretary McAdoo. And in case patriotism failed, they created the War Industries Board (WIB) with its sweeping & "unconstitutional" power.

Economically it worked fairly well in the twenties and then too well until the semi managed economy spun out of control again in '29 and nothing could revive it for ten years, though Roosevelt's policies helped.
Then, at the end of the 30's, an immense market for military equipment developed in Europe. When we were able to supply the military needs for the next big war, we were back in business. From 38 to 45, the U.S. became an industrial engine of weapons production that surpassed all expectations.

That war saved our economy and we thrived through the 40's. When the war was over it was time to dismantle what had become the military engine of our economy, centered at the pentagon. Wait a minute, what about going back to economic collapse? So it was decided to implement a continuos military base for our economy from then on, and that would require foreign wars and a more direct managing of our culture.

The '50's were presented to us with military enemies abroad and social enemies at home. The USA became a company town. Men and women were given roles to play. As the rise of the corporation grew, men were plugged into the cog in a corporate wheel role, stripping them of the rugged individualism that made the family farm or store or small business. Women turned from capable managers and foremen of farms and factories to adoring housewives and rabid appliance consumers overnight.

But the military engine needed feeding. So, in '47, Truman signed into being the "intelligence community" to drum up business for military contractors. (He later said that was the biggest mistake he ever made in his life.) These are the secret budget agencies like the CIA & NSA that, even today, sow the seeds of war all around the globe.
That was the beginning of the famous "inevitable" "military industrial complex" as Eisenhower called it. Ike had tried to end the cold war but his US/USSR summit was shot down by a spy plane incident.

These policies made the 50's a strange time with the commies both demonizing progressive politics at home and justifying a soaring military budget. The plan was to have astronomical sums of money ($100's of billions each year) to be funneled through the Pentagon to very large corporations that don't need to advertise on TV, with politicians as doormen, porters and skycaps. A neat trick.

Kennedy was a product of old style "Boss" politics and not as controlled as they needed. He was a fluke and just barely won the 1960 election against Nixon with his political machine and luxurious hair. In this way he started a new political litmus test that decides elections still; the best hair wins. Nixon lost & vowed not to be kicked around anymore.

Frightened by Kruschef's threat to end the world, Kennedy begins to scuttle all this military industrialism. He makes friendly overtures for ending the cold war with Moscow. And he begins handing the Vietnamese war over to the south Vietnamese. His attorney general attacked the Mafia bosses. JFK fired the CIA director Allen Dulles (who was reinstated by Johnson to run the Warren Commission) and completely terminated the Central Intelligence agency and its activities. In Kennedy's words he wanted it; "scattered to the winds." He pissed off a lot of folks.

Teams of well placed, lone gunmen took care of him.

Later when his brother locked up the democrats primary against Nixon in 68, the Manchurian Candidate took him out.

Nixon had been one of the inner circle architects of this new world order since the '40s, but was sloppy and almost amateurish. The Dallas Thing was almost revealed when E. H. Hunt wanted "hush money" from Nixon during water gate. Those 18 minutes of erased tape cost dick his job anyway. "A million dollars? I can get a million dollars?[snip snip...]" The entire Nixon administration melted down rather than reveal what was on that tape. Jerry Ford, (a stooge on the Warren Commission) was installed to pardon Nixon.

The election of President Carter was the uncontrolled result of stumbling so badly with Tricky Dick. So in 79 the plan was to pay the Iranians in weapons to hold the American hostages till 1 hour after the election results. Dan Rather (the only reporter allowed to see the Zapruder film for 5 years) counted the hostage days for a year, creating a defining campaign issue. By then, institutions and their systems (Campaigns, politics, media, justice, banking, insurance etc.) were locked up enough so that all the corperatocracy needed was a winning face. Reagun the actor was chosen for the part, with CIA director Bush for vice. They haven't missed a step since then.

"Fascism is Corperatism" - Mousellini

In 88, Bush was CIA/President just for the audacity of showing what they could get away with, ("Read my hips") revealing an unabashed security state. Pop & Jr. are like that, unabashed. During the Reagun/Bush years, weapons were sold to Iran to pay for the illegal war with Nicaragua. Multi Billion $ loans were made to Iraq that were used for weapons. Then they flooded the US with crack cocaine to begin the justice/prison industrial complex using the black lower class as fodder. They looted the US savings and loan system for 500 billion $. Bush put Noriega on the CIA payroll (Personally) for shipping cocaine up through Menes, Arkansas but Noriega refused to put Panama into the war against Nicaragua. He was later deposed in a shockingly brutal Guernica style invasion of Panama where they tested the new weapons for the gulf war.

In '89, Gov. Clinton, of Arkansas, a shameless opportunist with unbeatable hair was made president for his role in the cocaine epidemic, with the help of 60 minutes Don Hewett. His main accomplishments have been to bolster the Medical/Insurance/Gov. complex and Drug/Prison/Justice complex. More importantly, he has been at the forefront of the largely secret creation of the New World Government as envisioned by the powers of unregulated capitalism.

By the late 1990's the corperatocracy of multinational business entities have the US & other nations pretty well organized. Corporate interests install politicians who spend our tax $ on the Military/Gov., Medical/Insurance/Attorney, or Drug/Justice/Prison industries. The Mega World Corporation/Government is, of course, not yet a full reality. They still must produce a world currency and an internationally recognized set of Corperatocratic financial and legal "laws", regulations and enforcement's.

In history, economic consolidation often precedes political consolidation. The economic structure for world corporate government is being forged by the WTO. GATT, NAFTA, IMF, MAI, TRIMS, GATS, TRIPS, all of these acronyms stand for rules and enforcement's that can override local government activity. Environmental or labor regulations, volunteer effort or community consensus are all potentially "unfair business practices" and subject to sanctions. It is the implementation of the New World Order and its short sighted philosophy is that only capital has value. And so at the turn of the century unbridled capitalism again threatens democracy.

Now to me this is all too reminiscent of Marx and his idea that Capitalism would ultimately triumph and the workers of the world would unite in a world revolution and implement a more pragmatically livable society. But neither the complete triumph of capitalism nor the ability of the worlds people to unite could happen till the 21st century.

I extrapolate this from that. In the 1st decade the global corperatocracy will cause the rise of this popular workers movement. The rallying call will be the last Ideology: Pragmatism, "does it work or not". It will then be clear that political freedoms lead to economic strength, humanitarian efforts lead to dominance in foreign policy, sustainable practices can maximize commerce, etc.. Functioning civic systems requiring win win solutions will be created. On the internet, scalable Democratic systems for educated consensus on popular & rational solutions will be institutionalized. (webz.com/zanzabar/page8.html)

By 2020 great changes will proceed rapidly. Most business, retail, government and education will be in cyberspace. Some folks will "live" in complete digital worlds. Artificial intelligence, thriving as a virus, on millions of parallel processing PC's, will produce cyber beings of great expressive power. DNA will be recombined and cloned and mixed with nano tech to make new creatures. The environment will include invisible machines of electromagnetic fields for utilities and information. The brain/body, used as a chemical medium for self, will further our evolution past the physical realm. As the subconscious facilities of the human mind become understood and appreciated, large coordinated psychic groups will heal traumatized populations en mass. Earth will be introduced to extraterrestrial guides. Ultimately, a threshold number of self actualized people will be reached and they will telepathically "speak" with one voice the first words of "Gaia", a conscious planetary being, grounded in The Truth. And that will be the End of History. This one anyway. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dr Fred Coffman, P.H.D. physics, is today's host for; Ask The Doctor:
A reader asks, "Hey Doc? Is the anisotropy of the electron binding energy merely the difference in the effective nuclear mass ratios?" The Doctor answers; Ayyupp! It reminds me of a story. A young boy runs across a weed field, high Summer. Many cow paths branch through the field, each with its way and manner. His dog, short legged mongrel, true to that one boy, bounds along, jumping to see above the weeds and follow his boy. Right now - you are that boy, or you have that boy, strong, all curious, loving tremendously, filled with a bursting newness that just can't wait. Time displaced, blurred by tired eyes, still and always, that boy lives then, in one continuous sweep of motion from now. That boy believes in you and values you above all. That boy must live forever. Get hold of now. Be that dog. Be that boy.
